ABSTRACT

Smoking and alcohol usage, nutritional factors, genetic and environmental factors, and some pre-disposing diseases are effective in the develpoment of the esophageal cancers. Peptic or caustic esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, Plummer-Winson syndrome, achalasia, tylosis, gluten enteropa-thy are predisposing diseases. It is accepted by all the authors that Barrett’s esophagus is an im-portant predisposing factor in the formation of esophageal cancers. Although it is controversial, some of the literatures state that Helicobacter pylori plays an important role in the development of esophageal carcinomas.
