A Body Dedicated to Anatomy: Cavit Ca v a First in Ankara University, School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy

Objective:

Aim is to examine, introduce and bring in the literature, the life of a national athlete and businessman, Cavit Cav who donated his body to the Anatomy department, Ankara University School of Medicine for educational purposes.

Material and methods:

The main reason to begin this study was the skeleton of Cavit Cav in laboratory in Department of Anatomy. Private meetings were held with some members of the Anatomy department and Rahșan Fieber, Cavit Cav’s daughter. Both information from the archives of the department as well as the autobiography given by his daughter Information from the archives of the department as well as the autobiography given by his daughter were scrupulously examined. Information from his autobiography had been archived in the Department of Anatomy and this was checked alongside the information his daughter had provided.

Results:

Cavit Cav, who lived between 1905 and 1982, was a succesful national athlete and businessman. He gave importance to science and wisdom. He had been contentious and entrepreneurial person Documents regarding his lifetime and body donation process have been obtained. In the last period of his life, he had donated his body to Ankara University School of Medicine to contribute to medical education with his own will and wanted his skeleton be used for educational purposes as well.

Conclusion:

Throughout history the bodies used for dissection have often been bodies of prisoners, orphans and similar who have been removed from society. But Cavit Cav was an exception, as he was a leading person whose contribution to the field of anatomy and medical education in Turkey was invaluable.
